Vacation Snaps: Hiking the Burgess Shale in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada

Remember a few weeks when I posted about the lululemon Seawheeze half marathon I ran this summer?

Well, what I didn't mention is that right after I finished the race, Mr. Man and I hopped on a plane to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to spend some quality time visiting my family in the in Bow Valley.

While we, of course, spent a good portion of our week in the area being lazy and catching up with our loved ones at my family's home in Canmore, Alberta, Canada (near Banff national park), we also made a point to get outdoors and enjoy a few hikes in the area -- namely the Geoscience Foundation's epic 13-hour Burgess Shale hike to the Walcott Quarry.

See, several months prior, after hearing my parents rave about their time on the hike (there are fossils involved!), I convinced Mr. Man and a few of our friends to boldly sign up to accompany me on the mega day hike this past August.

Bless them all for dealing with my crazy ideas.

To prep for the Burgess Shale hike, a few days before our adventure, Mr. Man and I did a warm-up hike at Ha Ling near Canmore to get our lungs and legs acclimated to the higher altitude. To be honest, Ha Ling is a bit steeper than the Burgess Shale hike and sort of scared us into thinking we couldn't handle the longer hike to the Walcott Quarry. We were huffing and puffing the whole way!

Needless to say, the day of the actual long hike, we were both a bit nervous.

On the day of the hike, we woke up super early and headed to our meeting spot in Field, British Columbia (about 1.5 hours away from Canmore) to climb, climb, climb our way up to some fossils (you can read more about the hike details here)! Here's a few cell phone snaps of our journey:

It was a long, semi-steep hike and really, with a little training, I feel like anyone can do it with enough perseverance!

Although I brought my professional camera, I was so focused on the hike I didn't take too many photos, but here are a few I captured of the day:

Have you ever been on an amazingly epic hike before? Let me know in the comments below!

Hanging on to the Holidays: The Last Snaps from My Canada Trip at Vermillion Lakes

With the memory of New Year's Day well behind me, I've been reminiscing more and more about the wonderful time I was able spent with my family in Canmore, Alberta, Canada over the holidays.

As ya'll saw on a few of my other posts, Mr. Man and I enjoyed a wonderful snow, skating and kiddo-filled holiday in the great white north.

In between chatting with family members, heading to a Calgary Flames game, bumming around Banff and generally taking it easy, we managed to make to to Vermillion Lakes during on of our last days in Canmore.

I of course had my camera and HAD to take some photos. I mean, its BEAUTIFUL there!

Here's a few snaps I was able to catch (don't worry, this is the last batch I have from Canada!):

It's always beautiful and magestic in the Canadian Rockies

Sometimes its hard to believe that I was born so close to paradise. The Canadian Rockies are just one of those things that never, ever gets old to see when you look outside of your car window.

This morning my mum and I decided to go on a 12 km hike up to the Plain of Six Glaciers teahouse, which is near the fantastic Lake Louise ski area.

First of all, we couldn't have asked for a more gorgeous day. It was about 65 and partly sunny -- perfect hiking weather!

In all of the years that I've visited the Canadian Rockies, I'd never been able to squeeze this hike in, so image how excited I was to finally conquer it after all of these years!

The views are simply stunning. It was so hard to not stop every five minutes to take pictures. Although the hike was slightly challenging, I would say it was more than worth the trek up the mountain-- even so, the delicious tea biscuits at the teahouse up top were incentive to keep going!

Bonus picture: A nice moonscape from my backyard. Not bad, eh?

I might be having too much fun on vacation: Is that even possible?

Yesterday I might have gotten a little out of hand taking selfies in my fantastic new workout gear from BODYPOP. This is what happens when a workout fashionista has too much time and a beautiful setting... oh well :)

I'm still totally in love with this collection of clothes, although I am finding that I prefer the pieces for less-intense workouts, like Pilates or yoga.

I'm also in the process of reviewing headbands and tennis shoes for some of my next Fiterazzi articles, so I've been busy running, biking, hiking and testing them all out. I can't wait until these articles come out -- I've had such fun trying all these new products!

Happy vacation!

Back to my roots in the Canadian Rockies

Right now I'm on vacation with my family in Canmore, Alberta, Canada and I'm just loving it. Not only is everything beautiful here, but the weather is stunning! 65 degrees and sunny, what's not to love?

Yesterday after an awesome HIIT workout, my parents and I decided to climb up to Grassi Lakes on a hike. It was a gorgeous 2-hour hike with amazing views. As a photographer, this is absolute heaven!

I'm thinking a lovely bike run and pilates workout today! How are you enjoying your Labor Day weekend?
